I'm a little late with this comic. They announced that Final Fantasy XIII was no longer a PS3 exclusive and would launch simultaneously on the Xbox 360 as well a week and a half ago [link].

So is this the nail in the PS3's coffin? I doubt it. Will it hurt Sony? Definitely. Remember, the PS3 is bleeding money (unlike the Nintendo DS that prints it).

I won't further interject my opinions, yet. I'll wait to see what people have to say in this posting's forum thread first.

One last thing, Sunday is the final day to pre-order a "Cloud Lied, Aerith Died" shirt and save $2 off the regular price.

ICHI!!!

I'm going to divide my toughts because they're really complicated to post as one...

As a software developer, after this announcement, i lost faith in 3rd party titles going exclusive, and i talk about all consoles... it worries me for the quality part, i guess we have to let that for the 1st and 2nd party titles (like Nintendo did, do and will do)...

As a Microsoft non-supporter, i was worried about this title going multiplatform in Japan, where the PS3 really needs the boost, in US and Europe i see other titles doing that job... And SE said that in Japan it is going to be a PS3 exclusive, so the harm is controlled at least on that area... Still i don't like what Microsoft is doing, and i hope that in the future they don't try to pull a Windows on the gaming industry (and this worries me as a software developer too)...

As a gamer, i'm cool because it is still on one of my 2 consoles of choice this gen, and my friends who own a 360 and have no plans of getting a PS3 now have the game also, so i'm happy for them...

Well, I was comtemplating suicide, but then I remembered my boyfriend has an XBOX 360 so I stopped that imeadiatly.

I've been a fanatic Final Fantasy fan since discovering it's existence, and I've also been raised on the awesomeness that once was the PS. So... if I had to choose between World Peace and Final Fantasy 13 being PS3 only? Bring on the wars and famine, and bring me my PS3.

I admit, i tipped a bottle to the curb for the loss of FFXIII exclusivity, but I'm not going to worry too much because I really don't see the core X360 audience as the type who would enjoy RPGs (the games, not the launcher). As long as Insomniac, Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch stick with Sony I'll still have full faith in the PS3.

Back on topic, i still say that Sony knew they were gonna lose tons of money on the PS3 but they didn't care as long as the Blu-ray won the format war... Now that the war is over it's all about the games again, and they're doing damage control about the losses...

My argument to that is that I think Sony thought once they were declared victor in the format war that people would be stampeding to buy Blu-Ray... like the did with DVDs. The difference between DVDs and Blu-Rays is that to see the quality of a DVD all you needed was DVD player. With a Blu-Ray you also need an HD TV: a much bigger purchase. I think they were hoping this would push more people over or that more people would have upgraded to HD by now.
