This is PORTAL!
In 2007, there were two topics used more than anything else in webcomics: Portal and 300. In 2007, there were two topics that I did not do a single Dueling Analogs comic about: Portal and 300. Well, this isn't 2007 anymore bitches!
In a steampunk world, Portal technology and the Spartans would be a perfect match. Take the current scenario. You've got someone falling infinitely. Pretty soon the person's rate of decent will reach terminal velocity. At that speed if the descendant (or is it decendy?) could actually get a hold of ledge or something, what ever touched such ledge or something would look very reminiscent of a duck going into a airplane propeller. So without striking a single blow the Spartans have created the ultimate hell for said person. Either continue to fall until you inevitably starve to death or attempt to escape with gruesome consequences. And neither are death in battle that the Spartans males so long for.
I told Shawn and Brian that I was going to do this comic while I was at KatsuCon. Then, Scott did this comic last week. So I decided to wait until this week before I did my strip. You know what they say "Better late than pregnant... never!"
That's it. See you Monday.

This comic was awesome. And big ups to you for being able to hold off on 300 and Portal worship last year; there were enough people doing it already, and the timing of this one makes it fresher and funnier.
Coincidental side note: Today my friend showed me a picture on his cellphone. He was at the bowling alley and went to the urinal, and right under the handle was written "The Cake Is A Lie."
good game geeky graffiti artists. good game.

Obviously, if someone would fall into that, they would enter a phases of weightlessness, as there is no real object under them, for eternity, so instead they would keep on falling down, and down, and down, but not faster. Faster would imply a force under it attracting it, something it would eventually have to collide with.

This is an interesting discussion. It's my thought that the portal itself may exist outside of space/time however the space that you fall between portals would still be effected by earth gravity. And there is no "faster and faster," eventually you would reach that stage of weightlessness, it's called terminal velocity, the fastest you could possibly be falling.

That is if there's some resistance like air, without any resistance the object just keeps accelerating at the gravity rate...
Of course without air in the portal the object would die in a matter of minutes...

BTW, Steve, you made clear that you didn't do a single DA strip about 300, but you did several TOC strips about 300 (well, sort of), so i don't know if that counts...
This one is going to my Portal/300 list of strips, before this my 3 favorites from Portal were the VGCats one, the Extralife one and the Little Gamers one; and from 300 the CAD one, the VGCats one and the Extralife one... now i have to do some changes in the top 3...

That's why I specified Dueling Analogs.

I haven't played Portal yet I know damn near everything about it. Its depressing.
As for the sience part. There would be a terminal velocity but the person wouldn't decelerate. Unless something got in the way which gives you the duck in an air plane propelor. A well timed throw of a stone accross the portal would be deadly.

Freaking winner of 1 thread.

I've yet to play Portal, but I borrowed TOB from my friend so I should get around to it this weekend.
This comic is hilarious though, especially the first panel with that expression on Leonidas' face.
It's my cellphone screen-saver now.
