Mod Squad
Just because you can it doesn't necessarily mean that you should.
One guy modified his PSP to also be a cellphone (killing the UMD in the process). And another added a touch screen to the system like the Nintendo DS or an iPhone. Why? The first person destroyed a perfectly good PSP and turned it into a 6.5" x 3" cellphone. I thought the idea was to make cellphones smaller, not larger. I've got three words for you: Buy an iPhone. And as far as adding a touch screen to the PSP... Well, that is cool. But where is the practicality? You've created a mod that, at the end of the day, maybe another handful of people in the world will have done, as well, and how many of them will have designed any application, let alone any application worth using for it? But, I guess that's just the non-sadistic side of me talking. Or the side that just doesn't like wasting a few hundred dollars on a PSP when I could have just bought a friggin' iPhone. Seriously, there is a very clear and simple solution to both of your quests if you just think about it... iPhone!
I just want to let everyone know that I've got the Rejected Mega Man Villains poster and Cloud Lied, Aerith Died shirts in. And that if you haven't already received them, you should be receiving them very soon.
Also, starting this week I will begin the process of turning the Konami Code comic into a full-size poster. And will be posting the process on the pierski.com blog. So keep an eye out for that.

If you think that's unnecesary, look at this
PS3 Laptop, WTF!!!
Although it will be very cool to have a PS3 laptop, but it has to be a laptop (thin, no significant power consumption, Full OS capabilities, with warranty, etc.)...
BTW: 首先!!!

Portable versions of home consoles, I can actually see as being cool. I love my Sega Nomad. Let's me play Wonder Boy in Monster World where ever I want. But, I guess a laptop running emulators would make more sense then gutting a system and turning it into one.

Mods are a bit unnecessary, unless you're getting it chipped to play foreign games (which I understand). I haven't heard of someone bricking their psp for quite some time, although it probably still happens. There needs to be some more emulators for more recent generations (such as ps 1, gamecube, etc) and people will probably keep doing crazy things like that until then. PS 3 laptop does sound cool...

WTF!! Dude, there's more apps on a moded PSP than ANY iPhone POC, and in total the PSP/phone mod is STILL cheaper than some bullshit plan. I agree the thing is clunky, but that's not the point, the point is the ability to say, "hey, I made that thing!". I also agree to the average consumer this is not a practical thing to do, but I also think that the average consumer shouldn't get an iPhone either!

I have no intention of ever getting an iPhone either. But, everything they were trying to make had already been accomplished by the iPhone. Plus, it's already get a pretty large community of people designing applications for it and its touch screen. Just seems more logical.

Yes, for touch screen functionality the iPhone is currently king, but for random apps (well mostly only a f'n huge amount of emulators) the PSP is superior. But what it really is, is a Game Console trying to be a cell phone, while the iPhone is a Cell phone trying to be a, well everything. In certain respects they both fail miserably, and if the iPhone was just a phone it'd be a piece of crap that not even the apple fanboys would love, and if the PSP was just a portable game console... ok the Sony fanboys would still buy it, but there even more loyal than the apple fanboys.pierski wrote:t9999clint wrote:WTF!! My main point is that the PSP is successful because it's cheap and you can hack the shit out of it, making it do stuff that no one thought was possible. The iPhone does this too but is waaaay too expensive.

A new PSP is $169 and a new 80gig iPhone is $199. Mod the PSP to be a phone and you can no longer play UMDs. For the iPhone you do nothing. I would focus more on developing new applications to a product that is already established than the mods.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight, 16g is $299, I forgot that they lowered the price on the 8gig.pierski wrote:A new PSP is $169 and a new 80gig iPhone is $199. I'm not saying that the PSP is a superior product than the iPhone cause that's be like comparing a action movie to a episode of Top Gear, there two entirely different things that tend to have one overlapping subject. I'm just saying the PSP mod is impressive, regardless of how pointless it may be. But such is the truth with 99% of mods.
That and the 3g iPhone is a over hyped, glitchy, piece of crap.

Do you think that the iPhone is not getting hardware hacks???
iPhone Case Mod, this is actually really cool. Look at what he had to do to accomplish that...
Ok, this one is just ridiculous
And there's some guy using a plasma machine to do iphone mods, and other that is trying to add a powerful loudspeaker (instead of simply connecting the headphone jack to an amplifier), and that's just the beginning...
BTW, on one of the unlocks they discovered some crucial info about the iPhone hardware, and with that the hacking community has developed the first VG emulators, and commercial games are on the go, according to the specs, people are saying that the iPhone has the capacity of a Dreamcast or even the PS2... my only problem is the buttons, but i'm sure that a modder will take care of that

Yeah it's kind of stupid and a waste.
I like my PSP, I enjoy the games I have for it and everything. I use it purely as a handheld gaming system, no mods or hacks or emulators. I've never been able to see why people act like it's only worthwhile if you fuck with it.

I apply software mods only for having more capabilities to my system, my DS and PSP have that, and in the PSP case it paid well because i can dump my UMD into a Memory Card and play the game faster and more quiet... It also works to add more features to the PSP or DS and all of this without touching the hardware... But that's me, i like to have multifunctional things, that's why i love the PS brand, the N-series brand and the iPod brand...
