Million Dollar Arcade
I wouldn't say "unconditionally."
Penny Arcade's On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness came out yesterday for the Xbox LIVE Arcade, Windows, Mac and Linux. And... well... I haven't played it yet. I meant to download it yesterday from LIVE so that I could discuss the game itself. But alas, fate had a different plan for me. I'll review it later and post that in the news section. Instead let's discuss why I want this game to succeed.
Penny Arcade is the godfather of webcomics. I know other well-known webcomics came before them. But Penny Arcade changed the rules. They took a format that was only seen by few and made it global enterprise (with lots of credit going to Robert Khoo's marketing prowess). The number one webcomic in the world. Largest video game convention in North America. And now their own video game: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. And if this game succeeds it can send the message that webcomics can make profitable premises for video games. Much like PvP and MegaTokyo did for print.
Kudos, Tycho and Gabe. This is definitely an awesome accomplishment.

The comic was crearly a graphic representation of how a gaming webcomic can have smart Sheldon-like comments and constant good strips and turn them into piles of green paper that represents U.S. Currency.
Followed in ratings by Scott Kurtz, Randall Munroe and Tim Buckley, who also mantain a self-sufficient webcomic, Penny Arcade is the perfect example of how to make an efficient, popular and profitable site without selling to the poser-like masses.
Translation:
-Nice comic Steve
-Penny Arcade FTW!!!

No, everyone has their own likes/dislikes. There's some of the big webcomics I can't get into either. It just comes down to the individual.

I don't like personally PvP, however, i like Penny Arcade, xkcd and the all-time bashed CAD... At least those are the really big ones i can mention...

Naw... Penny Arcade is one that I might think to read every few months when I'm feeling overly bored.
I'm considering this game for one main reason; Ron Gilbert.

Nah, I never really got into Penny Arcade either. Don't get me wrong, I wish them all the success in the world (not that they seem to need any help), but to me anyway its only occasionally funny/entertaining at best. Of course that's just me. Personally, I'd rank VG Cats higher than Penny Arcade, if only Scott didn't have such a problem meeting his one comic a week schedule (Oh well, it could be worse, he could try to outdo Gone With the Blastwave).
Of course then there are other comics which just loose your interesting overtime despite how totally cool they're suppose to be. Like Megatokyo, or Sluggy. Oh well, times change.
So yeah, to each their own.

PA is not my personal favorite either, i like it but my favorites above PA (alphabetically) are CAD, Dueling Analogs, Extra Life, Joe Loves Crappy Movies, Little Gamers, VGCats and XKCD...
It's a matter of tastes but they really are the masters of webcomics...

I guess my question got more response than I anticipated it to; musing to yourself on the internet is not a great idea, I guess?
I know to each his own and whatnot, I just hear so many people who rave about Penny Arcade and whenever I read it I just thought "...yeah, ok."
Gaming webcomics as a whole I really don't read much anyway, as while all the jokes I understand, I generally don't own many of the games that get referenced on a regular basis due to chronic lack of funding, so the punchline can't always get the full impact. xkcd, Kate Beaton, Dresden Codak, Questionable Content, Not From Concentrate, Wasted Talent, rice boy, Megatokyo, DA, and VGCats are the only ones I read regularly now; I used to read Little Gamers but then it kept on screwing up my browser at school and the jokes were losing their flavor with me anyway so I stopped.

The anonymity of the internet gives a lot of people who normally won't bitch about stuff a endless expanse to do so. I take what I take the comments I read on Joystiq with a grain of salt.

Glad to hear it. I still wish people could read more than the comic.
