Guess Who?

Postby pierski » Thu Aug 02, 2007 9:43 am

They announced that Doctor Who is going to be released for the PC, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS this Christmas. Am I excited? Well, that depends... Eidos is publishing the game and even though they've been releasing some good titles recently, they have a track record of being hit or miss. Then, you've got to wonder what type of game its going to be. Anything besides a puzzle driven adventure game where the only violence is the game is the kind you avoid, would miss the mark. Then again, Eidos is a British company and grew up on the Doctor so they might know what the series is about. And you know the BBC will have their hooks in the project as deeply as they can get them (such is the BBC). So there's a good chance it'll be faithful to the source. I'll comment more about this project when there's more details than a bare bone announcement. Still, I know one person who will buy this game even if its the biggest steaming turd ever created... he's just that loyal of a fan or that obsessed.

Now, you know what I would be really looking forward to? A Red Dwarf video game or Red Dwarf series 9 or a Red Dwarf movie or something new Red Dwarf. If you have never seen Red Dwarf, then you are depriving yourself of one of the single best television series EVER!

I know a lot of you use Adobe Flash, so I wanted to direct your attention to Foundation Flash CS3 for Designers. My friend, David Stiller, co-wrote this book. Honestly, that should be enough. The guy is a friggin' genius and knows his product. In his illustrious career he has done work for NASA, countless automotive OEMs and for Adobe themselves. Besides that, the book also contains original artwork from various artists. Including some guy called John Kricfalusi... whoever that is...

Lastly, it is confirmed and I AM going to be at Katsucon 14 in February... actually February 15th through the 17th of the year 2008, to be exact. But before then, I will be at NekoCon X November 2nd through the 4th. I really need to add a convention listing under the banner ads... maybe this weekend.

And no matter how good a performance any other actor has given as the Doctor, when you think of Doctor Who you think of Tom Baker. Explains the scarf.

i love how that even though i have never seen dr who at all i still laughed my ass of at the comic. really, that's just showing greatness when that happens.

at first i was like "didnt i see a comic with the brick and porter potty in bored and evil?" after reading, i guess it all makes sence now.

I'm really curious to see what kind of a game it will be. And Steve's right, I'll probably get it just because it's Doctor Who. And I've only been a fan of the Doctor for almost a year...

I never liked Dr. Who.

That sound was the sound of many pints of lager that were no doubt dropped by my fellow countrymen on the hearing of such blasphemy.

Still, I liked Red Dwarf, so I should escape this thread alive.

Sounds awesome.

I'd recommend Barnes & Nobles store wise and either Amazon or half.com for the online.

Its a good possibility.

Colin Baker was so underrated. How about Mark of the Rani? Revelation of the Daleks? And Trial of a Time Lord is fun, even if it makes no sense.

I never liked the old Doctor Who either. I missed it when it was on and I coudn't be bothered with re-runs, but I like the new series. However, the games gonna suck.

A Red Dwarf game, that I would buy, even though it's even less likely than the film.

Doctor who game....
I don't know, the last one I played sorta sucked, every level was just a maze filled with doctor who enemies set in the tardis.

A red dwarf game could be good, I loved the show and own all the DVDs but the movie probably won't happen, it's been just talk for so long.
If you're reading this then the below post must not be important.

I imagine a Red Dwarf game one of two ways...

One way is a Sam & Max type game. It would focus more on puzzles and give them a good launch pad for the comedy the series is so well known for.

The other is an action/adventure type title. Obviously the player would be Lister, but Rimmer could be a scout type character since he is... was... let's imagine still is a hologram. Kryton could be back up or mechanical problem solving. And you could have mini-games where you play as Cat and go around claiming what's yours.

i think the doctor who game will suck, there's just isn't the material for a good game in the show.

However red dwarf is still awesome

I think there's enough material... the problem is whether or not its executed properly.
