Grin and Bear It

If GameStop actually had a Reserve Something Or Get Mauled By A Bear campaign I might actually take them seriously... well, I'd definitely take the bear seriously at least.

On a slightly related note, I actually ignored my moral convictions and reserved something from GameStop. Want to guess what it was? That's right! American Girl: Kit Mystery Challenge! for the Nintendo DS. It's going to be like Phoenix Wright for girls... I mean American girls.

Seriously though, I reserved my copy of GTA IV just to make sure I could get one. But that was only because they weren't taking reservations for American Girl: Kit Mystery Challenge!. I hope they don't sell out!

POLE POSITION AGAIN...

Thank God we don't have GameStop back in the 507 zone, curious thing, i have traveled to the US several times and i saw FuncoLand in one trip and GameStop in another, i hated both and 1 hour later i knew why (the whole corporate fusion thing)...

American Girl??? but that's an elite game, i like it so much that right now i think is better than GTAIV
Roberto Duran, Mariano Rivera, Ruben Blades, Justine Pasek, Rod Carew, Ramiro Mendoza, Los Rabanes, El General, The Canal, Flex, Match & Daddy, El Roockie, Eddy Lover, Irving Saladino, Laffit Pincay, Danilo P?©rez, Omar Alfano... to name a few...

It is better than GTA IV. I'm willing to bet if Rockstar had never created GTA IV. American Girl: Kit Mystery Challenge! would outsell it by 100%. Guaranteed!

I remember when American Girl was just a cheesy book series featuring 5 girls and 5 dolls. I remember when they expanded it to a few more girls and some create your own dolls. I remember the magazine, and the catalogue. The fact that they're making a video game, kinda saddens me. It just goes to show me that little girls aren't as interested in playing with dolls anymore. I miss those days.

(EDIT): OK..I looked it up on Amazon. There were more video games made, mostly PC...but still....

I take it Gamestop isn't very good. My region is pretty much dominated by EB games, places similar to wall mart, and the occasional independent shop. Another reason i'm not getting GTA IV, is that, as usual the OFLC wanted a "kid friendly" version (it turned out Rockstar had planned ahead and already created one).

EB Games is owned by GameStop. Here in the US, they are slowly converting them to GameStops.

As far as GTA IV goes... Have they announced what content is different, yet? And why not just import one from the UK?

GameStop Bear/GTA IV

Postby DashCat9 » Thu Apr 24, 2008 9:53 am

Awesome Comic!!!

I refuse to shop at Game-Stop any more. I worked there for a year back when they were still Babbbaages (a local Game Store that was eventually purchased by the Barnes & Noble conglomerate) and quit because of how I was treated. I went to Electronics Boutique...which was bought four years later by....Game Stop.

I understand companies are all about making money...but they usually at the very least pretend to give a rats ass about their employees and customers. Game Stop only cares about three things. Reserves. Magazine Subscriptions. Trade-Ins. They encourage their employees to *hound* (maul?) their customers about these things...by constantly threating to cut their hours or fire them if they don't meet their quota on each of them.

Anywho...I reserved my Copy of GTA IV at Game Crazy, and will be picking it up on Tuesday. Can't Wait.

On a side not...chances are, each Game Stop store is probably going to have 200 or so extra copies of GTA IV to sell on top of the ones that are held for those that reserved it. Some games *do* sell out...but the big ones usually don't, especially on launch day.

They haven't yet released what has been edited. My reasons for not getting GTA IV: I'm too lazy to import, all I do when I play it is fly around cutting peoples heads off, I've never finished a GTA game because it is repetetive, I generally hate popular things (I don't have an ipod because of this), everything gets marked up in this region even though the curencies are nearly equal value now, I actually like Just Cause, etc, etc, making a stand against the OFLC. Whatever, but I will be upset if Fable 2 gets edited ( as I would like to kill my friend's family in a creative way). Jack Thompson would frown upon you for buying it.

Ah yes, Gamestop. I've had to reserve a few things just because they're being gay here now and only order enough for the reserve-ee's! My dad had to go to Lansing, and that's the only way I got Harvest Moon DS: Cute. It was the last copy. That being said, as a former game store employee, I know for a fact that Gamestop continually screws people over on buybacks and game prices. Hell, most of the employees brought their used games to my store because we gave more money/store credit for them.

aparently at HMV if you preorder GTAIV, then you get £130 worth of HMV vouchers.

Thats a £90 profit, do that enough times and I could by a PS3 or 360 to play it on.
Freaking winner of 1 thread.

Thank God Gamestop is not interested in buying stores or putting one of theirs here, another good thing is that the Asian community is big here and they bring the asian games and consoles, and the typical stores that bring the US and LA releases are mostly independent...

BTW Konigs, it's good to hate popular things, but only if they suck or they are average... Hating popular good things only screw your fun...

There can be some average stuff that's fun too. But overall, very true.

Very true. Without my Ipod, I would never be able to watch Speed Grapher.
